We accept applications year-round on a rolling basis. However, we have quarterly review cycles with deadlines on March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31. Applications submitted after these dates will be considered in the next cycle.
Once approved, funding agreements are typically finalized within 2-4 weeks. Production can commence immediately after contract signing and first funding disbursement. We work closely with approved projects to ensure smooth transition from approval to production.
While South African citizenship is not strictly required, your production company must be registered in South Africa and the majority of key creative and production roles must be filled by South African citizens or permanent residents. The project must also meet local content requirements.
Required documents include: company registration certificate, tax clearance certificate, detailed project budget, script or treatment, director and producer CVs, distribution strategy, and proof of matching funds. Additional documents may be requested during the review process.
Yes, applicants must demonstrate access to matching funds for the portion not covered by LCPFF. This can include private investment, other grants, tax incentives, or in-kind contributions. The matching funds requirement ensures project viability and shared commitment.
Funding is disbursed in stages based on production milestones: 20% on contract signing, 30% on commencement of principal photography, 30% at wrap of principal photography, and 20% on delivery of final materials. Each disbursement requires submission of progress reports and financial statements.
Yes, production companies can submit multiple applications, but each project will be evaluated independently. However, companies with existing LCPFF-funded projects must demonstrate capacity to manage multiple productions and meet all contractual obligations for current projects.
Project delays must be reported immediately to LCPFF. Reasonable delays due to unforeseen circumstances may be accommodated with contract amendments. However, significant delays or changes to the project scope may require re-evaluation and could affect funding approval.
